Utilen Announces Appointment of Kari Barnes as CLo
Utilen, a strategic provider of at-scale coordination for the electric power industry, today announced the appointment of Kari Barnes as Chief Legal Officer.
Kari Barnes holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics Engineering with minors in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. She later pursued her passion for law at Loyola Law School, where she graduated first in her class. She then joined Fox Rothschild, specializing in intellectual property portfolio strategies for global companies. Her expertise evolved beyond intellectual property to encompass all facets of technology law—including data privacy, cybersecurity, compliance, transfer, and licensing—ensuring businesses could safeguard their innovations while scaling successfully.
With a growing interest in fostering innovation, Barnes transitioned into working closely with startups and small companies, helping them establish strong legal foundations in an ever-changing technological landscape. Before joining the Utilen team, her firm served clients developing drones, passwordless access technologies, deployable structures, distributive memory, and secure communications. She has been actively involved on the board of directors of startups and remains committed to mentoring emerging businesses in their growth journey.
Throughout her career, Barnes played a pivotal role in shaping legal strategies for notable companies, including Parcel Pending, guiding them from their inception to their $100 million acquisition, overseeing their intellectual property portfolio and open-source software integration.
